John and Ciça met in Berlin in April 2009 and began to work together in July 2009. "We aim to bring a positive, fun approach to teaching essential technique and interesting movements that will benefit many students. We focus a lot on the embrace and connection for better leading and following."
John is originally from Dublin but learned to dance tango mainly from extended trips to Buenos Aires, taking classes in all styles of tango. He enjoys blending traditional movements with modern and feels it is important to understand the aspects of each of these to develop your own style that is comfortable, in balance, rythmical and most importantly enjoyable. Ciça is originally from Brazil and she began her dance studies in 1988 in ballet, modern dance, contemporary dance (flying low) and tango. She has worked with numerous dance companies and in prestigious tango houses in Buenos Aires, and taught at festivals such as CITA. She is a leading star in the movie 'Mas Tango'. Based in Berlin since 2008 she regularly teaches tango at the schools Tango Nou and her own studio El Cuartito. Through the fusion of styles she develops in tango a unique, special form of artistic expression, incorporating decades of experience as a contemporary and modern dancer into tango. --- --- Oona and Timo met in Berlin in the summer of 2009. Since then both have been travelling through Europe as a dance couple. When Timo started Tango in Berlin, (in Mala Junta), he quickly became addicted and spent most of his free time in classes and milongas. In 2010 he travelled to Buenos Aires to learn more about tango with many famous local teachers who influenced his dance a lot. For him, musicality is the most important thing in dancing. He studies medicine but also regularly teaches tango in the school Nou Tango Berlin. Oona, who originally started tango in Lyon (France), is an "Arts du spectacle" student who has always been committed to dancing (first classical-, jazz ballet, rock'n roll and then tango, which she found the most fullfilling). Now she studies dance science at the "Freie Universität Berlin" with a project on linking tango theory and practice, presenting it as a respected dance form also in the artistic field. Furthermore she is developing a tango-therapy concept. In Berlin, she has taught tango in the schools Phynixtanz and TangoTanzenMachtSchön. Now Timo and Oona will combine their different tango roots to playfully communicate their vision of tango together during the Festivalito. |
